What You Can Expect
Those who wish to make the most of your holidays in Corfu, to discover and enjoy one of the most fascinating and influential cities of the ancient world, take a beautiful boat ride across the Corfu Strait to Albania, which preserves the rich cultural and religious legacy left behind by people who lived over the centuries.
Upon arrival you will be able to visit the city of Ag. Saranta, the 'Pearl of the Balkans', after boarding the bus the local guide will give you information about the history of civilization and culture of the country. Our destination is one of the most fascinating archaeological sites of the modern world: the Butrint site (UNESCO world heritage site). Inhabited since prehistoric times, Butrint has been the site of a Greek colony, a Roman city and a bishopric. Following a period of prosperity under Byzantine administration, then a brief occupation by the Venetians, the city was abandoned in the late Middle Ages after marshes formed in the area. The present archaeological site is a repository of ruins representing each period in the city’s development.
Reaching our destination we can only admire one of the best-preserved towns with elements of the four cultures of the Mediterranean, which will take you back thousands of centuries back to the Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Venetian times, a real archaeological treasure. Butrint, located in a green peninsula and surrounded by rivers connecting the Ionian with its beautiful lagoon. The archaeological sites are located in a natural park that you witness the past lustre, both the temple of Asklepios, the amphitheatre and the Cyclopean walls, the Greek period of the 3rd century BC, the public baths, the gym, aqueduct belonging to the Roman period, and also will see the Byzantine church with Baptistery that decorate exquisite mosaics. The culmination of the historical route is our visit to the castle, which belonged to the Venetian period, on top of a hill offering a panoramic view.
After the tour you will enjoy your buffet style lunch, in a traditional restaurant in Ag. Saranda.
